Search Me O' Lord

Life often brings us to moments where we question our identity, our purpose, and the direction we should take in various situations and relationships. Many influences shape us, and sometimes it becomes unclear who we truly are or what we are dealing with internally.

When we ask God to search us, we seek His omniscient view of who we are and ask Him what He sees. Is it pleasing? Does it need more discipline? Is our heart following Him? Have we strayed?

God’s Perspective

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

-Psalm 139:23-24

We must be humble in seeking God so that our hearts can understand who we are through God’s perspective. God knows us better than we know ourselves. As we ask God to search us, we seek a true understanding of who we are and where we stand, so that we can set aside the things hindering our walk with Him toward everlasting.

Bringing Hidden Matter into the Light

A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.

 -Proverbs 21:2

We must be willing to work to clear out the things within us that impede our growth. Personally, I have experienced seasons of deep introspection, where I felt uncomfortable in my own skin and sensed things were out of alignment with God’s purpose and principles. In my time of seeking God, He revealed areas I was neglecting or issues I was avoiding, rationalizing, or overlooking. Believing they were not hindering me enough or causing me unbearable discomfort or pain. So I neglected to confront them or bring them to the ligh. I thought it was okay to keep challenging my tolerance level to keep things halfway okay, while God saw the strongholds and stumbling blocks being created by my passivity. So, God began to bring hidden matters to light that required my attention.

Addressing what God Reveals

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

 – James 1:22-24

God reveals things to us—whether in ourselves or others—not just for observation but for action: to pray, to address, or to seek His wisdom.

So what does that mean?

It means that when God allows us to see something, He shows it to us so that we get involved. And there are different ways, each starting with prayer.  One being, we acknowledge what we see and intercede for it so that He is invited to make the change. We offer it back to Him, and then He begins to move.

Another, we acknowledge what we see and pray for wisdom to make the change. So He shows it to us so we can ask for wisdom and begin to move. Change only happens when we make changes.

I had to learn to confront and respond to what God showed me, even when it meant stepping out of my comfort zone or facing discomfort and uncertainty.

Overcoming the hindrance to change

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

-Hebrews 12-1

Often, confronting these issues are uncomfortable. Sometimes fear of the unknown or a desire for comfort holds us back from addressing what needs to be changed. Regardless of the reasons or excuses we offer, when God reveals something, it is time to deal with it and hand it over to Him. Even when the process is challenging, God's intention is always for our good.

And in some cases, the enemy will have us believing it is easier to tolerate certain behaviors or situations, but it is an illusion. Allowing negative patterns or offenses to persist does not help us grow. God calls us to confront and address these issues—either by giving them to Him for divine intervention or by seeking the wisdom, boldness, and grace to act as He leads.

The Power of Confession and Prayer

Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

-Proverbs 28:13

Confessing our sins brings us freedom from bondage and allows us to receive mercy and experience healing. When we bring our struggles into the light, rather than keeping them hidden, God can begin His work of restoration and healing. We cannot let the feelings of shame or secrecy keep us isolated from God's loving, delivering, and transforming power. He knows all anyway

So humbly let God search your heart and have ears to hear, eyes to see, and a heart to understand what He reveals. Rather you gain confirmation, conventions, healing, or provision do not leave it at the altar but take it with you in your daily life so that you see divine initmacy, change, deliverance, and prosperity in your everyday.
