I am Avis Sparks, the founder of A Spark Ministries.  I am glad that you took the time to visit our page.  My husband and I have created this website as a resource for believers and the curious to find encouragement, support, information, and, hopefully, inspiration to embrace the love and the word of God even more in their lives.

​

At a young age, I took to heart the scripture “my people perish for the lack of knowledge,” and these words created in me a desire to share knowledge with others to alleviate unnecessary pain and struggle.  This website and the other materials I share are an effort to share knowledge that can bring about healing and deliverance, and, in some cases, prevent others from experiencing certain circumstances and hurts.  God’s word brings resolution, deliverance, healing, and growth, and I want to share what I have learned with others.  I am thrilled at the opportunity to see change in people’s lives through the power of God’s love and word.

I spent most of my higher education in the sciences, earning a B.S. in Biology from Tougaloo College and a Ph. D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.  During my graduate studies. I researched breast cancer and Type 1 diabetes during my postdoctoral training at the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.  And just as I worked hours to discover and learn in science, God has blessed me with the desire and time to do the same in His word.  I have a love for knowledge, but also understand that knowledge that is not applied is useless. I eventually went back to school in 2021 and completed an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University in May 2024.

I not only have a desire to share the word of God but also want to encourage others to embrace it and support them in applying it to every area of their lives, because God wants us to be well mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.  I truly believe that the Word and Spirit of God and His love address all the problems of humanity.

 

God has blessed me to be a wife, a mother, a writer, an author, a teacher, and a speaker.  As the wife of Dr. Kendrick Sparks and the mother of two beautiful children, Ellis and Kensley, I have learned many lessons about love, grace, forgiveness, and hope.  He has strengthened my resolve to grow as a Christian witness and be an active part of the body of Christ by enabling me to touch other people’s lives through the written and spoken word.
